The Chennai Silks



The Chennai Silks is chain of retail textile shops in Tamil Nadu.

Its founders Kulandhaivel Mudhaliar and Amukurajah Mudhaliar entered the business in 1962. However its first textile shop was started in Chennai in 1991 as 'Kumaran silks' with his hard work, later renamed as 'The Chennai Silks' in 2001. They also export clothes for chain stores in USA and Europe including Decathlon, Carrefour, TESCO and Hanes.

The group also owns Sree Kumaran Thangamaligai, a retail jewellery shop across the state. The Chennai Silks has its branches in Chennai, Velachery, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Tirupur, Karur, Kochi, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Salem, Hosur, Viluppuram, Erode and Chittor (Andhra Pradesh).

A major fire broke out in ground floor of the TNagar Outlet in Chennai on May 31, 2017 around 4 am. The fire was unextinguishable for more than 30 hours. The cause of fire is unconfirmed, but it was certain that the building flouted various safety regulations. The officials at the accident site have confirmed that twelve workers were successfully rescued from the building by fire and rescue department personal. A part of the building collapsed at 03:21 am on June 1, 2017. No casualties reported. The damage to the building structure is considered to beyond repairable. The Urban Planning Ministry has given out a statement saying the building would be demolished and a FIR is filled against the owner of the textile outlet...
