The men's singles (outdoor) was one of six lawn tennis events on the Tennis at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme. The tournament was played on grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. It was held from 6 July through 11 July 1908 and 31 competitors from nine nations took part although leading players such as Norman Brookes, Laurence Doherty, Bill Larned and Anthony Wilding were absent.
There was no match for third place. A bronze medal was awarded to Wilberforce Eaves, who had lost to Ritchie in the semifinals.
