Area code 441 is the telephone area code for Bermuda. It was created by a split from the original area code 809 on October 1, 1995, although permissive dialing continued until September 30, 1996. When calling from countries and territories outside the North American Numbering Plan, the area code is prefixed by the international access code and the country code 1; for example from the United Kingdom, subscribers would dial 00 1 441.
From 1995 to 1999, each of the groups of the various Caribbean and Atlantic islands using the North American Numbering Plan area codes, which had previously shared area code 809, was split off and given its own area code. 441 is among them. The 809 Area Code now exclusively serves the Dominican Republic.
