On July 10, 2015, Nickelodeon ordered a fifth season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, consisting of only 20 episodes as opposed to 26 during the four previous seasons. The first four episodes will be released to DVD on March 21, 2017, two days after the TV-premiere. On March 2, 2017, Nickelodeon announced that season five will be the show's final season. It was renamed Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for this last season, and its opening titles have changed.
After the death of Splinter and defeating the Shredder once and for all, the turtles try to adjust to the changes in their lives. With their master gone, Leonardo is given the responsibility of sensei, which adds more pressure onto him. As he, his brothers, and their friends begin to settle down into their new life, old enemies return. Tiger Claw has started a underground cult dedicated soley to the Foot Clan as he plans to revive the Shredder with the help of the Demodragon, Kavaxas.
