Tanel Tein (born 10 January 1978) is an Estonian retired professional basketball player.
Tein's professional career started at the Estonian team Tartu in the 1993–94 season, when he joined at age of 15. Tein is a four-time Estonian champion with University of Tartu team and Polish Cup runner-up with Śląsk Wrocław in 2004. In 2004–2005 season he signed with the Bundesliga club ALBA Berlin. Tein came back to Tartu in 2006 and played for TÜ/Rock team. With the team he won Estonian Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2010.
In May 2010, Tein announced that he will not continue playing basketball as a professional.
Tein has been a member of the Estonia national basketball team since 1998 and was a member of the Estonian team in EuroBasket 2001.
On 11 June 2010 Tanel Tein gained media attention after being brought down by the rescuers from the top of the Arched Bridge (Kaarsild) in Tartu, where he had fallen asleep while being drunk.
