Tallapaka, India


Tallapaka is a village in the Rajampet mandal of YSR district in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, India. This village is famous for being the birthplace of carnatic composer, Annamacharya. Located 5 km from Rajampet in Cuddapah District, it is well connected by road and rail. From Tallapaka, Rajampet is 5 km, Cuddapah is 48 km, Nellore is 125 km, Tirupati is 90 km, Chennai is 212 km, Bangalore is 272 km, Vijayawada is 400 km, and Hyderabad is 469 km.

"Talula Paka" a place of Palm Groves. Talapatram or Palm Leaf was the substance on which the writings were preserved in olden days.

Karikalavan, a Chola king, destroyed forests here to build his capital Pothapi and then expanded his kingdom around this city. The area under his rule came to be known as "Karipa" or Cuddapah. As described by Thallapaka Thiruvengala Nadhudu or Chinnanna, Tallapaka was a part of Pothapi Nadu.

Telugu Saint Poet Annamacharya was born in 1408 and lived in this village till he died in 1503. He composed many songs in Telugu praising Lord Venkateswara.

The village is being developed into a major spiritual center.
