Szilárd Keresztes


Szilárd Keresztes (born July 19, 1932, in Nyíracsád, Hungary) is a Hungarian Greek Catholic retired bishop. He was bishop of the Hungarian Greek Catholic diocese of Hajdúdorog and apostolic governor of Miskolc from 1975 to 2008.

The newly founded Greek Catholic seminary Nyíregyháza Institute was the first year of a member, 1950-1955 until he studied at the institution. On August 7, 1955, Keresztes was ordained Bishop by Nicholas Dudas in Nyíregyháza. In 1957, earned a doctorate in theology at the Academy of Theology. From 1957 until 1960 was the organizing pastor in Budapest(Kispest). Between 1960-1970 he was an assistant pastor and a cantor in Nyíregyháza. From 1961 to 1975 he worked as a teacher of theology in the Theological College of Nyíregyháza, teaching Dogmatics as a college professor, philosophy, and religious education. From 1966 to 1969 he worked as a scholarship in Rome the Pontifical Institute of Hungary, where the Pontifical Oriental Institute of the Eastern Church Studies Faculty obtained a license. In 1970, became a canon of the cathedral. From 1971 to 1976 Keresztes was administrator of parishers in Nyíregyháza.

On January 10, 1975, Pope Paul VI appointed him titular bishop. 1975th On February 8, 1975, dr. Imre Timko consecrated him in Nyíregyháza and Szeged Cserháti Joseph Joachim bishop of Pécs assistants. From 1975 to 1988 he was assistant bishop vicar of Budapest and in Miskolc he was the Apostolic Vicar General Governorship. From 1984 until 1988 in the Eastern Kódexrevíziós Pontifical Commission he worked. Between 1987-1988 was rector of the Roman Pontifical Institute of Hungary. On June 30, 1988, Pope John Paul II named him Hajdúdorog diocesan bishop and Apostolic Exarchate of Miskolc. On February 28, 2000 he celebrated the consecration of a bishop. Pope John Paul II greeted him by a personal letter.
