The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is organized much like a civilian college. The Academy's Superintendent, a Navy admiral, is the equivalent of a college president. He oversees all of the school's functions. The Superintendent's principal deputies include overseeing a civilian Academic Dean, academic program and the faculty, and the Commandant of Midshipmen, who serves as dean of students and supervisor of all military and professional training. The Superintendent, Commandant, Academic Dean, and academic division directors sit on the academic board, which sets the academy's academic standards.
Although it is not an official requirement for the position, all superintendents since the late 19th century have received their commissions from the academy.
Below is a list of the 62 Superintendents of the United States Naval Academy. Many of the men listed had or have ships named in their honor.
