Trinamool Congress

Sultan Ahmed was the Union Minister of State for Tourism in the Manmohan Singh government. He was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from Uluberia (Lok Sabha constituency) on a Trinamool Congress ticket.

Ahmed is 56 years old, and is the representative 'minority face' of the Trinamool Congress. He had previously been a 2-time Congress MLA for Entally ( in1987–91 and once again in 1996–2001).

Sultan Ahmed joined the Chatra Parishad (student wing of INC) while studying at Maulana Azad College in 1969 and the Youth Congress in 1973. He was District Secretary of Youth Congress from 1978–80. Sultan Ahmed also was one of the founding-members of Trinamool Congress in 1997. He was earlier secretary of Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata, but his appointment as an acting minister, he has been made President.
