Susan Mary Hayman (born 28 July 1962) is a Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom. She is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Workington after winning the seat in the 2015 general election.
Born in Upper Bucklebury in Berkshire, she attended St Bartholomew's comprehensive school in Newbury before reading English at Cambridge College of Arts and Technology (now part of Anglia Ruskin University).
Hayman previously stood for Preseli Pembrokeshire in 2005 and for Halesowen and Rowley Regis in 2010, narrowly losing each time.
Prior to her selection as Labour's candidate for Workington, she was a councillor on Cumbria County Council and had worked in social services. Upon election, she became the first female MP to represent a constituency in Cumbria.
In September 2015 she was appointed to Labour's front bench as an Opposition Whip for the shadow Home Office and Women and Equalities teams.
In October 2016, following Jeremy Corbyn's re-election as Labour leader, Hayman was appointed as Shadow Minister for Flooding and Coastal Communities in the opposition's front-bench Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) team.
In February 2017, she was appointed to the position of Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
