Style Dance

The style dance is the second section of international artistic roller dance competitions. It was created and finalised by the FIRS (Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports) Artistic Committee ready for competitions starting in the 2016 season. It replaces one of the two chosen compulsory dances each year in international competition as well as replacing the Original Dance (OD).

The style dance is very similar in structure to the short dance in ice skating.

As with the short dance on ice, the style dance incorporates the steps of a compulsory dance, chosen annually by the Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports, into a routine that is created by the skater(s) taking part. This routine must adhere to a set genre of music which is also decided annually by FIRS (Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports).

As stated in the 2016 Rules Modifications the rhythms for the style dance are as follows:

Foxtrot, Quickstep, Swing, Charleston, Lindy Hop

Paso Doble, Flamenco, Tango, Spanish Waltz, Bolero Gypsy Music, Fandango

Waltz, Classic Polka, March, Gallop

Mambo, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Bossa Nova, Batucada, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba

Jive, Boogie Woogie, Rock and Roll, Blues, Old Jazz

Ethnic Dance

Disco Music, Pop, Dance, Hip Hop, Soul, Rap, Techno, House, Hard Rock
