Steve MacMahon

Stephen MacMahon is one of the founders of the George Institute for Global Health. He currently holds positions as Principal Director of The George Institute for Global Health (worldwide). He was formerly the Executive Director of the George Centre for Healthcare Innovation at the University of Oxford. He also holds professorial appointments in medicine at both the University of Sydney and the University of Oxford, where he is a James Martin Professorial Fellow. He is a specialist in cardiovascular disease, and also researches the treatment of chronic disease in the Asia-Pacific region.

MacMahon is the Chairman of the International Scientific Advisory Board of the UK Biobank and the Executive Chairman of George Clinical Pty Ltd, subsidiaries of the George Institute. He sits on the board of several other not-for-profit organisations, including the Oxford Health Alliance. He has published more than 300 scientific papers and delivered more than 200 invited lectures. He has received awards for his work on cardiovascular disease and was elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in March 2012.
