Steve Ahlquist


Steve Ahlquist (born 1963) is a comic book writer, author, and humanist from Rhode Island.

He is the creator of Oz Squad, a modern comic book continuation of the L. Frank Baum Oz children's book series. Through the 1990s Steve was the proprietor of retail comic and video store Atomic Comics, located at 780 Hope Street, Providence, Rhode Island, later moving to 742 Hope Street. Besides comics, Atomic specialized in rare and unusual sci-fi and anime videos as well as collectible card games, in particular Magic the Gathering. In the early 2000s, Steve was an assistant manager at Borders Books in the Providence Place Mall, Providence RI. He is also the co-creator (along with Chris Reilly) of Strange Eggs, an anthology published by SLG Publishing, formerly Slave Labor Graphics. In 2004 Steve Ahlquist and Chris Reilly were nominated for four Harvey Awards for their work on PupHedz. Currently he is working on many projects, including Girl World, Peeny-Boy, Goggles and Gloves, and a relaunch of both Oz Squad and Strange Eggs. He also has a mini-comic entitled "Peeny-Boy". His most recent work is The Weirdly World of Strange Eggs, an all ages graphic novel based on the Strange Eggs concept, and Oz Squad: March of the Tin Soldiers, a novel continuing the Oz Squad comic book series.

Steve Ahlquist is President and founding member of Humanists of Rhode Island. In December 2014, the group honored Steve with their "Humanist of the Year" award.
