Stephen D. Cox

Stephen D. Cox (born January 12, 1948) is the editor of Liberty magazine, an American monthly libertarian and classical liberal review. He is also a professor of literature at the University of California, San Diego and author of several non-fiction books.

Cox, who had been a longtime senior editor for Liberty, took over as editor-in-chief of the publication following the death of its founder and longtime editor and publisher, R. W. Bradford, in December 2005. In addition to editing duties, he writes articles and commentary for the magazine. This includes his monthly "WordWatch" column, in which he comments on how language and semantics influence culture and political discourse.

The books he has authored include: The Woman and the Dynamo: Isabel Paterson and the Idea of America () and The Titanic Story: Hard Choices, Dangerous Decisions (). He also writes for the Liberty and Power group blog at the History News Network.

His earliest work in WorldCat or the Library of Congress online catalog is "The Stranger Within Thee": concepts of the self in late-eighteenth-century literature (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1980). OCLC 213782271 LCCN 80-5252
