State Basketball League Most Valuable Player Award

The State Basketball League Most Valuable Player (MVP) is an annual State Basketball League (SBL) award given since 1975 to the best performing player of the regular season in both the Men's SBL and Women's SBL. Between 1975 and 1987, it was known as the Fairest and Best award. A name change occurred in 1988, as it was dubbed the Sands & McDougall Most Valuable Player award. The award remained without a name between 1989 and 1991, when in 1992 it was dubbed the John Syminton Most Valuable Player award following Syminton's appointed as president of Basketball Western Australia. Syminton held the position of president for four years (1992–95), and the award remained named in his honour until 1998. Since 1999, the award has had no name.
