Stagecoach in Newcastle is a bus company and division of Stagecoach North East. Stagecoach in Newcastle is the biggest Stagecoach division in the North East and is one of the 3 major bus operators in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne alongside Arriva North East and Go North East, largely providing the bulk of the services within the city, whilst the other operators extend out into the surrounding Tyneside conurbation and North East region.
Stagecoach in Newcastle provides local services around the city as well as operating the 100 MetroCentre shuttle, running from Blackett Street via Central Station to the Metro Centre. This service is operated with five Alexander Dennis Enviro300s. 2007 saw the first introduction of the Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double decker buses which now run on the city's busiest routes; 1, 12, 22, 38, 39(Hybrid), 40(Hybrid), 62, 63, X87, X88. Services 62/63 are the longest bus services in the city by distance whilst services 39/40 have the highest patronage and highest frequency, running up to every 5 minutes during Monday-Saturday day times. From July 2011 Stagecoach Newcastle took delivery of 26 brand new Enviro 400H Hybrid double decker buses as part of the government's green bus scheme. The buses run on the 39/40 route in a green version of the company's livery.
On 31 December 2008 one of the new Enviro 400s (19380, NK58 AEU) was de-roofed after it hit a Metro bridge 54°59′19″N 1°32′22″W / 54.9885°N 1.5395°W in The Avenue, 400m west of the Wallsend station. The accident happened after the driver apparently took a wrong turn, leading to minor injuries and brief Metro speed restriction. The vehicle returned to service six months later in June 2009.
