CD Single #2 for "Solid Wood".

"Solid Wood" is a song by English singer Alison Moyet, released as the second and final single from her 1995 compilation album Singles. It was written by Moyet and produced by Ian Broudie.

To promote the UK number one compilation album Singles, two new songs were released as singles. The first was a cover of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", written by Ewan MacColl, and the second was "Solid Wood". Despite the first single failing to reach the UK Top 100, "Solid Wood" saw some commercial success, peaking at #44 in the UK, and remaining in the Top 100 for two weeks.

Two different CD versions of the single were released with three bonus tracks on each. Both included the non-album track "Blue", which was written about the singer's love of Southend United F.C.. The first CD release of "Solid Wood" featured the song "Ode to Boy" from Moyet's fourth studio album Essex and a live version of "There Are Worst Things I Could Do", written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. This version of the single used the same artwork on the sleeve as the previous single "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". The second CD version of the single featured a different sleeve design. Aside from "Blue", it also featured Moyet's 1994 hit/Essex track "Whispering Your Name" as a bonus track, as well as a track titled "First Time (Are You Sure It's Your...)". This was a remix of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face".
