Smilde (52°57′N 6°27′E / 52.950°N 6.450°E) is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 10 km southwest of Assen.
Smilde was a separate municipality until 1998, when it became a part of Middenveld.
In 2001, the town of Smilde had 3460 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.2 km², and contained 1449 residences. The statistical area "Smilde", which can also include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 4890.
Smilde's most famous structure is the partially guyed tower of Zendstation Smilde.
