Sir Joseph Danvers, 1st Baronet


Sir Joseph Danvers, 1st Baronet (24 December 1686 – 24 October 1753), of Swithland, Leicestershire, was an English politician.

He was the eldest son of Samuel Danvers of Swithland and educated at Lincoln's Inn from 1709.

He was appointed High Sheriff of Leicestershire for 1721 (June to December) and was elected Member (MP) of the Parliament of Great Britain for Boroughbridge 24 Oct. 1722 – 1727, for Bramber 1727 – 1734 and for Totnes 1734 – 1747. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1724 and made a baronet in 1746.

He died in 1753 and is buried in St Leonard's churchyard, Swithland. He had married Frances, the daughter of Thomas Babington of Rothley Temple, Leicestershire. They had 1 son (Sir John Danvers (1722–1796)) and 4 daughters.
