Sheriff of Edinburgh

The Sheriff of Edinburgh was historically the royal official responsible for enforcing law and order in Edinburgh, Scotland and bringing criminals to justice. It became known as the Sheriff of Midlothian and Haddington in 1872,Sheriff of the Lothians in 1881 and Sheriff of the Lothians & Peebles in 1883.
