Serdika Metro Station (Bulgarian: Метростанция „Сердика“) is a station on the Sofia Metro in Bulgaria. It was put into operation on October 31, 2000. With the opening of Serdika II on August 31, 2012 the station became a transfer station between the Red and Blue lines. However it is not a true transfer station (such as platofrms 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Canning Town station in London), but an interconnected station, in a similar manner to the Washington Metro's two Farragut stations.
The station is named after the ancient city of Serdica, as it lies in the very centre of the hitherto unearthed ruins of that city. These are located about 20 feet below ground and, along with the opening of Serdika II station, a large section of the old city has been exposed and is in full view both around and inside the two stations.
