Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell are fictional characters and a supercouple from the Australian soap opera Neighbours. Scott was portrayed latterly by Jason Donovan, and Charlene was portrayed by Kylie Minogue.
Scott meets Charlene in 1986 when he mistakes her for an intruder at his neighbour Madge Ramsay's house. It turns out that Charlene is Madge's daughter, who has just arrived from Queensland and the two have not seen each other in several years. After an initial rocky start, the two fall in love, and even though they face the respective opposition of their two families (The Ramsays and the Robinsons had been feuding for years), the two are married in 1987.
The wedding (episode 523) was first broadcast in Australia on 1 July 1987, and in the UK on 8 November 1988, with the UK broadcast being watched by 20 million viewers. The ballad "Suddenly" by Angry Anderson, which is played over the ceremony, was actually chosen by Minogue as the song to be played at 'her' own wedding.
The couple were hugely popular with Neighbours fans in both the United Kingdom and Australia, helping the show to gain high ratings after an initial rocky start.Kylie Minogue later went on to have a hugely successful singing career after leaving the show in 1988. Jason Donovan followed suit the following year in 1989.
In the storyline, more than twenty years after their wedding, Scott and Charlene are still together. They have two children, Daniel (born 1992) and Madison (born 1995), and live in Brisbane. Daniel's name was a sort of unification of family names, having his maternal great-grandfather Dan Ramsay's name combined with the surname Robinson.
In 1989, British musicians The KLF released their humorous dance single "Kylie Said to Jason", which also refers to Angry Anderson singing "Suddenly".
