Scott Lumley (born January 26, 1968) is an American businessman, writer and former #1 All Pro Rodeo Rider in the World . In 2001, 2002, 2003 he was the NRS Top Rider prior to retiring from the rodeo. Lumley is also the former owner of The Music City Stars, an expansion team in the American Basketball Association (ABA) that played from 2009 to 2010.
Scott Lumley was born on January 26, 1968 in Dyersburg, Tennessee. At age 10 he started riding horses on his stepfather's ranch in Oklahoma. After moving back to Tennessee he started mastering the sport of team penning. Scott Lumley attended Donelson Christian Academy, graduating in 1986. Lumley continued his education at the University of Tennessee at Martin from 1987 to 1989.
Lumley is well known in the Rodeo circuit and was the former #1 All Pro Rider in the World and the #6 NRS Rider. He was also the NRS Top Rider from 2001 to 2003 prior to retiring from the rodeo. Scott is a well-known expert on penning horses,a western equestrian sport that evolved from the common ranch work of separating cattle into pens for branding, doctoring, or transport. During his career and after his retirement he produced a series of videos called "Secrets of the Pros". Over the course of his team penning career he earned over 400 wins.
After retiring from the rodeo, Lumley started researching liquidation sales and returns. He eventually turned a $250 pallet of products bought from overseas and flipped them into $4800 over several weeks. He continued using this model to start his first company, Large Lots; a company that specialized in liquidating large retail stores. He held the position of president for four years before becoming the president of the Nashville Broncs of the ABA. He was in charge of handling the promotion of the team and in 2009 he became the president of the franchise which would be re-branded as the Music City Stars. The team played their games at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium before relocation to Lipscomb University's Allen Arena for the 2010 season. The team ceased operations in 2010.
Scott Lumley founded Resolve Commercial in 2010 and he currently acts as the CEO. Resolve Commercial focuses on developing large residential developments in the Middle Tennessee area.
In 2015, Scott Lumley pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering. Lumley admitted that as the owner of Bluebuyou; a wholesale distributor, he had made misrepresentations to a customer to which he had sold a large quantity of energy drinks. He admitted that he had forged the bills of lading and that the drinks had never been shipped and that the company did not have enough product to satisfy the sale. He was sentenced later that year and agreed to pay full restitution to the customer. By 2017 he had paid his plaintiff in full.
