Schoolcraft Township is a civil township of Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 7,260 at the 2000 census. The township is named for Henry Schoolcraft, noted for conducting many early land surveys throughout Michigan.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.0 square miles (93.4 km²), of which 34.4 square miles (89.0 km²) is land and 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²) (4.69%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 7,260 people, 2,781 households, and 2,027 families residing in the township. The population density was 211.3 per square mile (81.6/km²). There were 2,916 housing units at an average density of 84.9 per square mile (32.8/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 96.96% White, 0.51% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.23% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.16% of the population.
There were 2,781 households out of which 36.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.1% were non-families. 22.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.06.
