The School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) is the thirteenth-largest public school district in the United States, and the fifth-largest school district in Florida. The district encompasses all of Palm Beach County. For the 2010–2011 academic year, enrollment totaled 171,692 students in Pre-K through 12th grades. The District operates a total of 187 schools: 107 elementary, 33 middle, 24 high, 17 alternative, 2 adult and community, 1 intermediate, 2 Exceptional Student Education (ESE), and 2 K-12. It has 21,495 employees and 37,036 volunteers.

Established in 1909, the district was known as the Palm Beach County Board of Public Instruction until the mid-1980s. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The District's headquarters are in the Fulton-Holland Educational Services Center in Palm Springs.

As of 2010–2011, the district is responsible for the following schools:

Robert Avossa, Ed.D., was named Superintendent of the Palm Beach County School District in June, 2015. The district is governed by a School Board. The Board consists of seven members, who are all elected from single-member districts. One of the Board Members is elected Chair and one of them is elected Vice Chair.[citation needed] Board members serve staggered terms, and members from Districts 1, 2, and 5 are elected during presidential election years, while the members from Districts 3, 4, 6, and 7 are elected in gubernatorial election years. Board members are Chuck Shaw (Chair, District 2), Frank A. Barbieri (Vice Chair, District 5), Mike Murgio (District 1), Karen Brill (District 3), Erica Whitfield (District 4), Marcia Andrews (District 6), and Debra Robinson, M.D. (District 7).
