Sassenach (Outlander)

Outlander is a British-American television drama series based on the Outlander series of historical time travel novels by Diana Gabaldon. Developed by Ronald D. Moore and produced by Sony Pictures Television and Left Bank Pictures for Starz, the show premiered on August 9, 2014. It stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall, a married former World War II nurse who in 1946 finds herself transported back to the Scotland of 1743, where she meets the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite risings.

On June 1, 2016, Starz renewed the series for a third and fourth season, which will adapt the third and fourth Outlander novels. As of July 9, 2016^[update], 29 episodes of Outlander have aired, concluding the second season. The 13-episode third season is scheduled to premiere in September 2017.

In 1968, 50-year-old Claire and her 20-year-old daughter, Brianna, attend the funeral of Reverend Wakefield in Inverness, and meet his adopted son, Roger. Exploring the Reverend's records related to Frank's lineage, Brianna finds out about Claire's three year 'disappearance' and deduces that she is the product of an affair. Claire attempts to tell Brianna the truth about Jamie and her time travelling, but a furious Brianna refuses to believe it. Meanwhile, Brianna meets Scottish Independence activist Gillian Edgars, whom Claire later recognises is Geillis Duncan.
