Sanjiv Mehta (businessman)

Sanjiv Mehta is an Indian business executive who is the CEO of Hindustan Unilever.

Mehta received a degree in commerce and later became a chartered accountant. His first professional job was at the chemical company, Union Carbide India Limited, a year before the Bhopal disaster led to the death of thousands. In 1992, he moved to Dubai joining the staff of Unilever, over the next seven years, Mehta worked in Dubai. In 1999, he was assigned to a board position at the Unilever branch in Bangladesh, after a successful turnaround at the branch, he assumed the position of chairman of the board. In 2008, he was appointed head of the Middle East and North Africa division of the company. In 2013, he was appointed as the new CEO of Hindustan, the first Indian CEO never to have worked at Hindustan.

As the CEO, between 2015 and 2016, a slowdown in rural economic growth affected the volume of goods sold but the firm was able to counter the rural slowdown with deeper penetration of its dominant markets to extract better margins.
