Sanford is a city in Lee County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 28,518 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lee County.

As of the census of 2009, there were 29,922 people which was a 28.9% increase from 2000. The population density was 1243 people per square mile (372.5/km2).
