Sandip Soparrkar (Dr. Sandip Soparrkar, born Oct 06, 1964 ) is an Indian Latin and ballroom dancer, a Bollywood choreographer, an actor and a columnist who holds a Doctorate (Phd) in World Mythology Folklore from USA. He is a highly awarded dancer and choreographer who is the pioneer of ‘India Dance Week', a dance platform that brings varied Indian and international dance forms together on one single platform. His initiative 'Dance for a Cause' works tirelessly to raise funds and bring awareness and consciousness to various social issues and problems that are prevalent in the society at large. He has been honoured with the prestigious title of 'Ballroom Dance Jewel' by World Book of Records, Indo British Intellectuals Forum and the British Government at the House of Common, London, United Kingdom.
He has been honoured with the National Achievement Award and two National Excellence Awards by the Government of India for his outstanding contribution in the field of Dance, choreography and social work. He been bestowed with the prestigious 'Visionary Award' for developing a dance program for the blind by the Government of United States of America and Lions Club. This name also appears in the list of '100 Most Influential Dancers in the World' by the famous Dance Magazine USA.
Sandip was honoured with a traditional Indian Sword as the symbol of Power, by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India when he was bestowed with the prestigious 'Shakti Samman' for his exceptional work in the field of dance and choreography . His unique initiative 'Dance for a Cause' which is a very popular dance event in India has been conferred with the 'National Excellence Award' 2017, making him not just a dancer-choreographer but even a Social Activist of great repute.
Newspapers and Magazines all over the world publish his interesting and creative writing work too. His columns 'Voxtrot' in the prestigious London Age and Asian Age Newspaper and 'Artscape' in the Afternoon Voice Newspaper are very popular in the dance world.
Sandip was born in Bhopal, second of the two children to Col Ajay Kumar and Rani Soparkar. His Grand Father Dr. K.M Soparkar was the first Gynaecologist in the Indian Army and his Great Grandfather Dr. M.B Soparkar had the honour of being the personal Doctor of Mahatma Gandhi, Vallabhbhai Patel and Morarji Desai.
He started his career as a hotel management graduate. He completed his specialisation in world cuisine and started working as a cook. At the same time, he started learning Latin and Ballroom dances. When he choreographed for the award winning film Zubeidaa in 2001, he decided to take up dancing as his career option. In 2007, he was unmarried and yet adopted a child named Arjun.
His Father Col Ajay Kumar Soparkar is in the Indian Army and mother Rani Soparkar is a Teacher. He Travelled all over the world while he studied dance to gain more knowledge about the authenticity of various dance forms. He holds a Masters degree in Business Management from the prestigious Symbiosis Institute and also a Doctorate degree in World Mythology folklore from the famous Pacifica Graduate Institute, California, making him one of the most highly qualified and educated Ballroom dancers in the world.
