Sam Eagle is a Muppet character originating from the television show The Muppet Show, where he was performed by Frank Oz. Sam has appeared in every Muppet film; as himself in The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Muppets from Space, and The Muppets, as well as the Head Schoolmaster in The Muppet Christmas Carol, Samuel Arrow in Muppet Treasure Island and a CIA agent in Muppets Most Wanted. He also appears in the television series, The Muppets.

Also known as Sammy or Samuel, Sam's patriotic spirit distinguishes him from the rest of the Muppet cast, as does his general stuffiness and pomposity. Because of this, it has been a running gag in either The Muppet Show, or Muppet movies, that represents his patriotism towards the United States. In The Muppet Christmas Carol, the fourth wall was broken when Sam (playing Scrooge's former headmaster) informs the young Scrooge that he will enjoy business because "It's the American way". The Great Gonzo, who plays Charles Dickens, as well as the narrator, corrects him and says that the line is, "It's the British way," since the story is set in Great Britain.
