The Sal Island or Regional Second Division is a tier-3 regional championship played in the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde. The tournament is organized by the Santiago South Zone Football Association. The winner of the championship plays in Sal Premier Division in the following season. In the first season in 2015, the first two clubs were promoted into the Premier Division.
After six clubs including ASGUI, Chã de Matias, Florença, Gaviões, Jovens Unidos and Nova Geração became registered in 2014, the regional Second Division was introduced and after São Vicente, it would be the next league to have a second division in 2014.Sal was the most recent club to have a Second Division added in the 2014/15 season, each two divisions had 6 clubs each. In the following season, two clubs added to the premier division totalling eight and the second division clubs was reduced to four. The promotion/relegation system was introduced, the first placed second division club promotes in the following season and the last place club relegated into the second division the following season.
For the 2016-17 season, the number of clubs in the Second Division had risen to five with the addition of Pretória, a club based in the east of Espargos, that club did not appear in the cup and opening tournaments this season, one of the few clubs in the nation who spent their first season without appearing in the cup and opening tournament competitions.
As of 2017, Chã de Matias, Jovens Unidos, Nova Geração and Pretória are the clubs who appeared only in the division.
