Russell 1000 Index

The Russell 1000 Index is a that represents the highest-ranking 1,000 stocks in the Russell 3000 Index, which represents about 90% of the total market capitalization of that index. As of 31 March 2017^[update], the stocks of the Russell 1000 Index have a weighted average market capitalization of almost $151 billion; the median market capitalization is nearly $9.1 billion. The index, which was launched on January 1, 1984, is maintained by FTSE Russell, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group.

The ticker symbol is ^RUI.

The Russell 1000 Index is tracked by several exchange-traded funds, such as the iShares Russell 1000 Index (NYSE Arca: IWB) and the Vanguard Russell 1000 Index ETF (NASDAQ: VONE).
