Roscommon Township is a civil township located in southern Roscommon County, Michigan at the south end of Houghton Lake. The population was 4,249 at the 2000 census.

The Village of Roscommon is located to the northeast of Roscommon Township in Higgins Township.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 108.3 square miles (280 km2), of which 103.9 square miles (269 km2) is land and 4.3 square miles (11 km2) (4.02%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4,249 people, 1,716 households, and 1,158 families residing in the township. The population density was 40.9 per square mile (15.8/km²). There were 2,678 housing units at an average density of 25.8 per square mile (9.9/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.60% White, 0.80% African American, 0.61% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.87% of the population.

There were 1,716 households out of which 27.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.2% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 27.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.89.
