Robinsons Galleria (also known as Robinsons Galleria Ortigas) is a mixed-use complex and shopping mall located at EDSA corner Ortigas Avenue, Quezon City just near SM Megamall. The mall is owned by Robinsons Malls. It was built in 1990 with a total gross floor area of approximately 216,000 m2 (2,330,000 sq ft).
Robinsons Galleria Mall is a 5-level shopping mall and a landmark along, EDSA and Ortigas Avenue with more than 400 shops, dining outlets, entertainment facilities and service centers. It is located within a mixed-use complex composed of two high-rise office towers namely the Galleria Corporate Center and the Robinsons Equitable Tower, the Holiday Inn Manila and Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, the Galleria Regency and the historic EDSA Shrine.
Before Robinsons Galleria, This mall used to be an open land owned by SSS at Ortigas CBD. In 1986, the portion of the land facing EDSA became part of the People Power Revolution in where the tanks going to Camp Aguinaldo and Camp Crame were stopped at this spot. In 1987, John Gokongwei bought the large portion of the land from SSS (The Archdiocese of Manila partly purchased the intersection portion of the land). Construction began in mid-1988 and finished in late-1989. The Mall opened in 1990 being the first mall of Robinsons Malls. In 1997, the mall expanded with opening of the North Section of the mall. In 2005, The mall began its 1st Renovation. In 2010 Galleria's 20th Year, The mall began renovating the exteriors and interiors with new elevators and the addition of The Veranda, an al fresco dining partly similar to Greenbelt Mall in Makati.
In March 29, 2012, one security guard was killed while six others were wounded after two armed robbers lobbed a couple of grenades while fleeing with their loot. Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the two still unidentified suspects, clad in security-guard uniform, attacked two bank guards who were escorting two bank tellers that were on their way to deliver an undetermined amount of money to Sanrys money changer shop located at the mall’s ground floor at around 10:15 a.m. In a statement, Rose Ann Villegas, head of the public relations office of Robinsons Land Corp., said at least two armed men “forcibly” entered the mall, attacked the guard stationed at the mall entrance and then followed the Security Bank officers who were delivering the money.
