Rina Dechter is a Professor of Computer Science in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at University of California, Irvine. Her research focuses on automated reasoning and constraint satisfaction in artificial intelligence. In 2013, she was elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery.
Dechter received her B.S in Mathematics and Statistics from Hebrew University in 1973, her M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Weizmann Institute in 1976, and her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1985 as a student of Judea Pearl.
Dechter was a senior lecturer in computer science at the Technion from 1988 to 1990, after which she moved to the University of California, Irvine, where she became a full professor in 1996. She was a Radcliffe Fellow at Harvard University's Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study from 2005 to 2006. She is the co-editor in chief of the scientific journal Artificial Intelligence Journal, a position to which she was elected in 2011.
