Richard Gruelle

Richard Buckner Gruelle (February 22, 1851, Cynthiana, Kentucky – November 4, 1914, Indianapolis, Indiana) was an American Impressionist painter who was a member of the Hoosier Group of Indiana landscape painters.

He moved to Norwalk, Connecticut, in 1910. He was self-taught and the only one of the Hoosier Group painters without European training. He began by painting portraits and domestic interiors before turning to landscapes.

Gruelle's son, Johnny Gruelle became famous as a commercial artist and creator of Raggedy Ann.
