ResurrXion was a Marvel Comics event involving brand new plot points and fresh starts for its Inhumans titles and X-Men titles in order to establish a new status quo for both franchises after the events in Inhumans vs X-Men ended. This event focused only on Inhumans and X-Men titles as all of their ongoing story arcs post-Secret Wars were wrapped up once Inhumans vs X-Men resolved all of the ongoing story arcs revolving around those titles. One of the most noteworthy aspects of this event is that it returned the X-Men comic books to their status as one of the forefront franchises of Marvel, a position that the X-Men hasn't held since the 90s when the X-Men were Marvel's top-selling franchise. This assuaged many fears from fans that Marvel was slowly killing off the franchise and replacing it with the Inhumans due to 20th Century Fox currently owning the movie rights for the X-Men.
ResurrXion was initially announced in September 2016 before Death of X and Inhumans vs X-Men began and it was stated that it would take place canonically after the Inhumans vs X-Men comes to a close. From that time on until March when ResurrXion was launched many teasers for each related series were released in the following months. In order to make room for the ResurrXion lineup of comics, some of the then-current Inhumans and X-Men titles were cancelled including Extraordinary X-Men, All-New X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Uncanny Inhumans, and Mosaic. In March a few weeks before the ResurrXion lineup was launched some of the writers at Marvel teased what to expect from some of the characters involved in the upcoming event. The event was officially launched on March 29th, 2017 with Inhumans Prime and X-Men Prime.
In order to set up for the main new ongoing titles that were coming up, Marvel launched X-Men Prime and Inhumans Prime. Each individual single-issue book was used to set up how each team was going to move forward after the events of Inhumans vs X-Men as well as setting up the story-arcs for certain titles involved.
