As an unincorporated area, Redland's boundaries are not officially defined. Redland is, however, recognized by the United States Census Bureau as a census-designated place, and by the United States Geological Survey as a populated place located at 39°8′17″N 77°9′19″W / 39.13806°N 77.15528°W (39.137931, -77.155292).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 7.0 square miles (18 km2), of which, 6.9 square miles (18 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it (1.86%) is water.
