Red Hot Chili Peppers concert chronology

The Red Hot Chili Peppers 2001 Tour was a short concert tour by Red Hot Chili Peppers. The tour followed a few months after the end of the band's hugely successful Californication Tour. The 2001 tour was made up mostly of benefit shows and festivals which were scattered throughout the year starting in January and ending in December all while the band was in the process of writing and recording their next album, 2002's By the Way.

The 2001 tour was a brief tour with dates scattered throughout the year as the band were in the process of working on their By the Way album. The tour would feature three live debuts from their upcoming album including "Don't Forget Me", "Throw Away Your Television" and "Universally Speaking". Another song, "Fortune Faded" was written and recorded for By the Way, but would not make the album and eventually be re-written and released on the band's 2003 Greatest Hits album. This tour marked the first time the band actually started to leave out songs from their early 80's era and start to focus on their more recent work and 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, a trend that has continued into their following tours. However, a one time performance of "Pretty Little Ditty", the 1989 instrumental from Mother's Milk was performed for the first time in ten years. Highlights on the tour included an opening slot at U2's performance at Slane Castle in which 90,000 tickets were sold in under ten minutes. The band also took part in helping MTV celebrate their 20th anniversary.

This tour marked the last time "Pretty Little Ditty" and "Savior" have been performed live.
