Recognition (sociology)

Recognition in sociology is public acknowledgement of person's status or (achievements, virtues, service, etc.). In the field of psychology, it is understood that a person who seeks excessive recognition could themselves be exhibiting traits of a narcissistic personality disorder.

When some person is recognized, he or she is accorded some special status, such as title or classification.
