Ranil Malcolm Jayawardena (born 3 September 1986) is a Conservative Party politician in England. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Hampshire since May 2015.
Jayawardena is of Sri Lankan origin and won the North East Hampshire constituency, taking a near-30,000 vote majority over the Liberal Democrats in 2015 general election. This is the largest majority for a current Conservative MP.
Jayawardena was educated at Robert May's School, a state comprehensive school in the historic village of Odiham in Hampshire, and Alton College in the town of Alton (also in Hampshire), followed by the London School of Economics, where he graduated with second-class honours.
Jayawardena is a former Councillor for Bramley and Sherfield in Hampshire, and became Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Strategy in Basingstoke & Deane. He is also a member of North East Hampshire Conservative Association.
Jayawardena has lived in Bramley for over a decade, and has worked for Lloyds Banking Group. He is married and a practising Christian.
