Qingdao Fortschritt Red Lions Football Club is a football club and academy from Qingdao in Shandong province, China. The club has its home base in the Laoshan district of the city.
The first team is coached by Gert Heerkes, former manager of Heracles Almelo. Former notable players include David Löfquist,Kwame Quansah and Milan Perić.
Qingdao Red Lions was established in early 2016 by its founding members Bruno Marveggio, Rob van Eck and Piet van der Pol. The club aims to contribute to the development of Chinese football, both on youth level as in competitive league football. Within its first season the club established itself firmly on the fourth level of Chinese football and is now aiming for promotion to the third, fully professional level.
At a sponsor event organized by the football club in the summer of 2017 the club established a name sponsor partnership with Sino-German agricultural company Fortschritt Agritech, based in Qingdao. During the 2017 football season the club will be playing their games in the Qingdao Super League and the China Amateur League finals as Qingdao Fortschritt Red Lions. Fortschritt has a rich history in the agricultural industry as well as in football, particularly in the former German Democratic Republic.
The club badge consists of a shield containing a lion's head—a symbol for strength—and Wuyue Feng (May Wind), the iconic monument on Qingdao's May Fourth Square.
