Public Strain is the second and final album by Calgary band Women. This record was produced by Chad VanGaalen. It was released in 2010 on VanGaalen's Flemish Eye record label in Canada, and on Jagjaguwar in the US.

Two songs on the album are direct references to artist Ray Johnson. Locust Valley is the town where Johnson lived in New York State. Venice Lockjaw is a phrase Johnson incorporated in pins that he gave away at the Venice Biennale. A direct reference to the artist was also on the first self-titled album of 2008: "Sag Harbour Bridge" from where Ray Johnson committed suicide in 1995.

The album was released to critical acclaim, with UK-based review aggregator site AnyDecentMusic? correlating twenty-one reviews resulting in an ADM Rating of 7.8

Exclaim! awarded Public Strain its No. 10 spot in Pop & Rock Albums of 2010. Writer Brock Thiessen said "Public Strain showed that rock'n'roll can still offer shock and awe." Pitchfork Media placed it at number 47 on its list "The Top 50 Albums of 2010".

The album was named as a longlisted nominee for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize.
