Polly Teale is a British writer and theatre director best known for her work with the Shared Experience theatre company, of which she is artistic director.
In 2002, Teale directed a production of Helen Edmundson's award-winning play The Clearing at the Tricycle Theatre. Teale won the prize for best director at the 2003 Evening Standard Theatre Awards for her staging of After Mrs Rochester which was performed at the Duke of York's Theatre. In 2012, she directed Edmundson's Mary Shelley, which was produced by Shared Experience on tour, including at the Tricycle Theatre and the Liverpool Playhouse. Other productions directed by Teale for Shared Experience include Bracken Moor (2013).
Her own plays include Mine, about the adoption of children.
Teale has a daughter, Eden, with her husband, director Ian Rickson.
