Planeta.ru is a Russian crowdfunding site, currently the biggest in the country. It is led by the musician Max Lakmus. From its founding in June 2012 until March 2016, over projects totaling 6300000000 rubles were funded. 390
The site is similar to English-language sites such as Kickstarter and IndieGoGo. It allows creators to ask for a specific amount of funding for future projects from patrons, in return for which those patrons choose rewards. There are two fundraising options: either no money changes hands if the required amount isn't raised by the deadline, or the money is transferred even if the full amount isn't met. Planeta.ru takes a 5% commission from every project in which funds end up being collected.
The projects are divided into the following categories: Animation, Art, Charity, Cinema, Dance, Design, Fashion, Food, Games, Literature, Music, Photography, Science, Society, Sport, Technology, Theatre, Video, and Other.
The rock band Bi-2 became the first to fund a project through the website, even before its public launch. Their album Spirit raised 1 260 000 rubles and was released in physical and digital formats.
Monetary transactions are made through a user's digital wallet. Payments into it can be made through several methods, including debit cards (VISA, Mastercard), mobile phone wallets (Beeline, MegaFon, MTS) and online payment systems (Yandex.Money, QIWI, WebMoney).
