Plainfield Township is a township in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. Plainfield Township is located in the Lehigh Valley region of the state. It is part of Pennsylvania's Slate Belt [1].

The population of Plainfield Township was 6,138 at the 2010 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 24.8 square miles (64 km2), of which 24.7 square miles (64 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2), or 0.16%, is water. It is in the Delaware watershed and drained by Bushkill Creek and Martins Creek. Its natural northern boundary is Blue Mountain. Its villages include Belfast, Delabole, Edelman, Kesslersville, Miller, West Bangor, and West Pen Argyl. Its numbered routes are the 33 Expressway, 191, and 512.

Plainfield Township surrounds Pen Argyl in the northeast and nearly surrounds Wind Gap in the northwest.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5,668 people, 2,130 households, and 1,637 families residing in the township. The population density was 229.2 people per square mile (88.5/km2). There were 2,191 housing units at an average density of 88.6/sq mi (34.2/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 98.85% White, 0.37% African American, 0.02% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 0.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.67% of the population.
