Petrolia is a borough in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 212 at the 2010 census.

Petrolia is located in eastern Butler County at 41°1′5″N 79°43′6″W / 41.01806°N 79.71833°W / 41.01806; -79.71833 (41.017964, -79.718204), in the valley of the South Branch of Bear Creek, a tributary of the Allegheny River.

Pennsylvania Route 268 passes through the borough, leading north 3 miles (5 km) to Bruin and south 1.7 miles (2.7 km) to Karns City.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Petrolia has a total area of 0.39 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 218 people, 89 households, and 64 families residing in the borough. The population density was 543.7 people per square mile (210.4/km²). There were 99 housing units at an average density of 246.9 per square mile (95.6/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 100.00% White.

There were 89 households, out of which 29.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 20.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.80.
