Parmele is a census-designated place in Martin County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 278 at the 2010 census. Parmele's first black mayor was James Pitt Sr.

The racial makeup of the town was 10.69% White, 85.86% African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.34% Asian, and 2.76% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.69% of the population.
There were 114 households out of which 26.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.3% were married couples living together, 25.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 34.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
