Pandharpur is a well known pilgrimage town on the banks of Bhimā river in Solāpur district, Maharashtra, India. Pandharpur is situated on 17°11' north latitude and 75°11' east longitude in Solapur District. The Vithoba temple attracts about a million Hindu pilgrims during the major yātrā (pilgrimage) in the month of Ashadh (June–July).

According to the 2011 census of India, Pandharpur had a population of 98,000. Males constituted 52% of the population and females, 48%. 71% of the population was literate; 78% males and 64% females. Mainly Marathi is spoken here along with little Hindi and Kannada. There are total 4 yatras (wari) took place in a year, in which ASHADHI& KARTIKIare main yatras (hindu gathering to celebrate the festival of lord viththala) Bhima river also named CHANDRABHAGA located in front of the temple having water all year, providing all people located & people coming to yatra a good source of water to drink & to use as well. Also there is a DAM located on this river named UJANI DAM. providing electricity supply & necessary water supply when needed. Mostly during the yatras & after the yatras the water is needed to use & to clean the village PANDHARPUR as well. Main crowd is of OLD People only along with youngsters & some childrens. They live in Pandharpur only during YATRA in "tents" & also some local people allow them to use their houses during yatra. All the time the feasts (delicious food mainly consumed on fast) & songs of lord VITHTHALA are got singed by the visitors to enjoy that culture of yatra all the time in PANDHARPUR & nearby areas where the peoples are staying.
