Painface is an American Death metal band that originally formed in 1997 in Des Moines, Iowa, by former Slipknot frontman Anders Colsefni. The band broke up in 2001, later reforming in 2011, and releasing a new E.P. in 2013 titled 'Skullcrusher'. The band was set to release their first album since Fleshcraft (2000), but indifferences where met, and the band broke up yet again in 2015. On December 5, 2016, a year later after the band's second dissolution, frontman Colsefni released a 12-second teaser video on YouTube of a new track titled 'GunSlinger' citing the bands Second Reformation. Little is known to who else besides Anders are a part of the newest lineup.

Painface formed in late 1997 after Andrew Rouw (known by his stage name "Anders Colsefni") departed from Slipknot earlier that year. The band worked on an untitled demo EP between 1998-1999 for which fans adopted the name "On A Pale Horse", which later also included recordings from 2001. Later on in 1999 they recorded their first full-length album, FleshCraft. In 2001 the band significantly altered their line-up, changing name to "On A Pale Horse" and soon stopped being associated with Painface, being considered a different band.

The band reformed in 2011 as Painface, with a new line-up where only Rouw was included from the original line-up. They announced a new album to be released as a 4-volume box set, titled "Mortality", with the first volume "Concussion" to be released in spring 2012, which was then delayed for 2014 due to complications. On the 27th January 2012 Painface returned to the stage for the first time in over 10 years. The band played with their new line-up at the Vaudeville Mews in their hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. A 4-track "Skullcrusher" EP was released in January 2014 as a kind of showcase of the new material and to keep people hungry until the first volume of the box set is recorded and released.

On 6 May 2015, guitarist Antonio 'Taco' Alaniz announced on his personal Facebook page that he was retiring from music, also saying that drummer Greg Stravers had left the band as well. This was backed-up a couple of days later, on 8 May 2015, through the band's Facebook page, where it was announced that all current members except Anders had decided to stop playing live performances with the band. At this point in time, the future of the band was uncertain as Anders was the only remaining, and in fact only original, member. The final nail in the coffin came on 11 July 2015 when Anders himself announced, again via the band's Facebook page, that he was retiring from music too. All work on current material has been ceased, with only material that's already released, being available.
